How to kitesurf: Flat 360 – Strapless – North Kiteboarding Academy

Watch as we show you how to do a Strapless Flat 360. This in depth tutorial is packed with loads of tips and tricks, brought to you by the all-new North Kiteboarding Academy. The backside flat 360 is an extremely technical move for advanced strapless riders. The kite steering is the same as in most strapless jumps: up to 11 or 1 O’clock and back down again.

Be carefull that the kite doesn´t go further back than 12 o´clock. When you pop focus on bending your front knee quickly to get the nose up high and facing into the wind – The wind will press your board to your feet. For the first 180 degrees you back foot plays the leading roll: While you kick the tail forward and upwards pull your toes up to get the windward rail higher. After 180 degrees bend your back knee and use your front foot to guide the nose under your body and through the remaining 180 degrees.

Make sure to pull the bar to your front hip when initiating the rotation. This will give the kite some slack through the rotation. Let go your back hand for better balance and to support the rotation. For the second half of the rotation push the bar up so you can rotate free. With some practice you can jump higher before initiating the rotation: in this case remember to push the leeward rail down with your toes. This will will bring the windward rail up and the wind will push the board towards your feet for better control. The rest of the move is the same as in lower flat 360.

Let´s remember the key elements:

Pop out and focus on getting the nose up high and into the wind Lead the tail with your back foot through the first 180 degrees

Pull the bar to your hip to initiate rotation then push the bar away to finish the spin.

Use your front foot to lead the nose through the second half of the rotation.

Enjoy your ride with North Kiteboarding Academy!
