What happens when a Brazilian Surfer meets a Brazilian Kitesurfer in Kailua ? A nice technical exchange and nice pics by Gisa De Paula :

Interchange Kite and Surf

We are in 2012 and the world of radical sports has never been so bold. New methods have emerged and innovative maneuvers that defy the laws of gravity. In this context, Kitesurfing, Waveriding especially, has emerged worldwide. And the inspiration for people who like to surf with your kite could not come from another niche: The maneuvers of modern professional surfers.

On a typical day of summer in Hawaii, windy, few waves, you probably would not be in the water, right? Wrong. For a kitesurfer, this is a good opportunity to train aerials, turns, and trying to extrapolate with insane maneuvers like backloop, Rodeo Clao (360 Backside air with grab on the tail), Alley Loop (Front side 360 air no grab doing a “e” on the wave), 360 inverted grab, among other possibilities.

Stephan Figueiredo

It was with this thought that athletes like Gustavo Foerster ( Penasurf ) and Stephan Figuereido ( MCD , Globe kites )  joined to a session in the shore break of Kailua, on the East of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Stephan comes from the surf and is always featured on the Hawaii season with beautiful tubes in major magazines in Brazil. Gustavo is Kitesurfing Wave athlete and is living in Hawaii for a year to get some good swells and produce a movie for his sponsors.

The exchange worked. A professional surfer has a good view of the wave. A good sailor has a good view of the kite. Gathering this information, you can take advantage of a condition that most likely you would be out of the water. And even better, make the condition super radical maneuvers that make the mind-blowing head who’s passing on the beach or even if you’re reading this report now documented by Gisa De Paula‘s pics.

The forecast helped with wind and a little wind-swell 1-3 feet, which would be enough to leave the track authorized for big aerials.

Then, we can say the kite surfing and have a great connection. It is a sport that appears as one more tool to keep you in the water, to pull you in waves, and to help you in aerials and spins with the board. With the entry of some professional surfers in the sport, kitesurf on waves has had an incredible evolution. The category strapless (no straps on the board) has become increasingly closer to the traditional surf now potentiated by the kite. The limits are being overcome faster and faster.

Those insane maneuvers that seemed to be true only in video games may be getting closer to being seen on your beach. If you have enjoyed this text and surf, this is one more reason for you to learn to use a kite to catch the waves or fly across the ocean on windy days. The adrenaline pays the bill.
